What is a hydrosol and why use one?
A hydrosol is the floral /plant water produced as a by product of the steam distillation process used to produce many essential oils. These waters contain many of the therapeutic properties of the essential oil but in a highly diluted form. The healing benefits often remain the same as the oils but they present themselves more readily in treatments for children and for facial treatments.
* Use 30-50mls of Roman Chamomile hydrosol in the bath for childhood eczema. It’s soothing and hydrating properties calm the skin.
* Spritz Rose hydrosol on the face instead of a facial toner. Rose acts as a tonic and is rejuvenating for all skin types.
* Thyme Ct Linalool hydrosol can help acne sufferers due it’s astringent and antibacterial properties.
* Witch Hazel hydrosol is extremely antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and can heal myraid skin problems – rashes, psoriasis, bites and even varicose veins. (Beware of witch hazel sold in chemist as it often contains alcohol or preservatives).
Always buy hydrosols from a reputable supplier. Hydrosols have a shorter shelf life than most essential oils, often 8-12 mths so watch out for a change in smell or cloudy bloom appearing. I received this really interesting newsletter from one of my suppliers (Oshadhi) so thought I’d pass it on – just click on the link:
